SCOT returns from Vilnius, Prague

Art Printing House, Vilnius, Lithuania. Home of the Sirenos festival.

The production of Dionysus in Lithuania was a critical success, and strengthened the ties between Suzuki and the theatre community there.

Oskaras Koršunovas, who presented his Midsummer Night's Dream in Shizuoka not long ago, and Eimuntas Nekrošius, another older patriarch of the Lithuanian theatre, were both there checking out what Suzuki was up to.

Vesta Grabsstaite, the master teacher of Suzuki there, arranged for a demonstration where Suzuki lectured for some time and we showed several of the basic techniques, and a couple of the advanced ones. Suzuki is constantly emphasizing that the technique is not only applicable to Japanese actors or styles.

After the performances and demonstration were over, we had a day of sightseeing around Vilnius, and then a whole couple of days in Prague.

This was kind of crazy notion, seeing as we never used to have any vacation time, but it was very well deserved. Of course, I spent most of my day with Suzuki, looking over the Jewish cemetery, walking down the hill from Prague castle, and then enjoying some goulash and hot wine.
